Futureproof Core Principles

futureproof is built around six core principles which will guide the evolution of each development.

zero carbon buildings and neighbourhoods

futureproof homes will be zero carbon, with a highly efficient building envelop and renewable energy provision. Homes will be oriented to make the most of heat and light from the sun and to maximise the use of solar energy technologies. Furthermore, the off-site precision build of the homes will dramatically reduce embodied carbon – sustainable materials will be maximised while construction waste will be minimised.

zero carbon transport

futureproof sites will be planned for pedestrians and cyclists with safe, walkable and cyclable streets and spaces. Electric vehicle charging provision will be the norm across the sites within dedicated mobility hubs. Safe cycle storage, local transport provision and initiatives like car clubs will all encourage residents out of their cars.

habitable, affordable, flexible

futureproof developments will be designed with lifetime living in mind: they will be accessible, adaptable and flexible. Homes will be configured for different lifestyle choices, with social spaces, work spaces and multigenerational living options. They will be designed to adapt to future climate change while continuing to provide a quality, healthy living environment. Light, airy spaces and biophilic design principles will enhance the living environment for all.

replicable

futureproof homes are built offsite with a modular, adaptable design. They are highly replicable but can also be adapted to fit the local vernacular and climate in a given setting.

positive ecological and biodiversity credentials

futureproof developments will be dominated by trees and planting rather than cars and roads. Private gardens and communal green areas will together enhance opportunities for wildlife, creating beautiful spaces for all to enjoy.
